Welcome to Block 3 of our 2021 BOM, Let’s Stay Home! This block is called Let’s Stay Home and Bake a Cake!
Birthday season is coming up for our family, that is, the kids’ birthdays – three birthdays within three weeks. I tell you that every year I am well and truly sick of cake by the end of the birthdays!
Let’s Talk Cakes!
Of course you don’t need a birthday to have the excuse of baking a cake… Cakes are lovely for when friends come around, or just for afternoon tea….
Cakes don’t need to be as fancy as this one that DD made for her birthday last year…
Wonder what she will come up with this year?!
Let’s Stitch Cakes!
A cake can be as simple as some icing and fruit on top….
All three blocks are up on my design wall… that I need to move because there isn’t enough space to hang them where they should be!
I think they are looking pretty… (yes, they are crooked, I can’t reach that high!)
Remember, this block is only up for one month, and then it will go in our shop for a small price.
And just in case you missed the first two blocks, I have a discount code for you to use at checkout to ketchup… er.. catch up 🙂

Favorite Cake….
My favorite cake has to be a chocolate one… but I must admit I also like a Lemon Madeira cake. I have never even made the latter, but have bought them from the supermarket… so,.. if you don’t feel like staying home and baking a cake.. well, you can always just buy one and then stay home and eat it! 🙂
What is your favorite type of cake?
That’s a lovely cake and a lovely block, Joy! I have a few favorite cakes myself: Plain white cake with butter cream frosting, strawberry cake, and my all time favorite is one my mama made when I was growing up – a yellow cake with homemade chocolate frosting that she cooked in the cast iron skillet! That frosting tasted like fudge on top of the cake! It was fantastic. I tried making it a few times and it turned out pretty good.
I agree with Linda–lovely cake and block. I have a couple offavorite cakes–Angel Food cakes with strawberries or raspberries, and cheesecake.
My favorite cake is a Dump Cake so vanilla is my favorite.
Beautiful! We have a ton of birthdays this month , too! (and two anniversaries!)
I like chocolate cake the best but enjoy many others as well. This one is a beauty!
I love your blocks, my favourite cake would be an orange syrup cake, at the moment that is
Ah yes, our close birthday dilemmas which we both share with our kids, though ours is 4 within 3 weeks which you already know. As for cakes, I’m not sure I have a favourite as such, but maybe I’ll bring over my “famous” (ha,ha) blueberry cake in a couple of weeks when we visit. I’ll get the above drawn up today for some nightly stitching. Thanks, take care & hugs.
What a pretty cake DD made…. I wish I could ice as prettily…. lovely stitchery too… gotta love cake!

Have seen several of the small heart quilts made with squares on your website. What is the name of the pattern and where can I get it?
A great addition to the BOM! Thanks for sharing these blocks free. Maybe as I recuperate, I’ll get to start one, and it could just be that I start with cake!
Another really sweet block (hmm…did I make a pun?). As for the answer to your question – I would have to say my favourite is chocolate.
