It’s the end of our long weekend, celebrating the Queen’s Birthday! In honor of Her Majesty’s birthday, I did lots of Bright and Cheerful sewing 🙂
First up I worked on the Bedding Plants QAL and did lot of chain sewing…
And when I finished it, discovered that my design wall is too small….
Sadly, there’s not much I can do about that right now!
Then I decided to start something that I’ve been meaning to try for years now… making some of Lori’s Holts design boards… I thought they would come in handy for the Sewcialite blocks…
I glued the batting on, and then couldn’t decide what to use to put around it, so actually started using it before it was finished, for our block 2 of the Sewcial QAL:
It works really well, even without being finished!
By the way, Alice and I found we had to trim 1/4″ off both sides of the bottom panel to make it 9 1/2″ square:
So if you are making this block too, don’t stress, just center the strip and trim on both sides
Here are the first two blocks done;
.I think they look pretty cute….
My design wall is looking very bright and cheerful right now:
I need to take them down tomorrow, however, because these need to go back up again….
…before the next block comes out. I am aiming for Wednesday, so please make sure you download block 3 before it goes up for sale in the shop!
In other news…
I got a bunch of meal prep done, using my pressure cooker and also freezing some meat that I got on special… that should help me get more sewing done this week, right?! Well, I hope so anyway!
How was your weekend? Did you get any sewing done?
Your ‘bedding plants’ are beautiful and so big!!
I love that top row especially! This will be a bright and cheery quilt! Have a great week, Joy!
Hi Joy–what pretty flowers you have in your garden!!
Glad to hear you and Alice are getting together once again to stitch–
hugs, di
Your bedding plants blocks are so superbly colorful and inspiring! I’ve also been tempted to make some of Lori Holt’s design boards. Too busy gardening, etc., right now. 😎
your blocks look so lovely and cheerful….. those little block boards are so useful….

I can’t wait to start the bedding plants quilt now, yours looks great and so very colourful. I made some of the Lori Holt boards about 5 years ago and still haven’t bound them and they still work perfectly.
All looking bright & cheerful after such an exhausting week with dreary weather & all the storm damage. I also sewed & haven’t seen if my second sewcial block is the right size. I’m lucky to be doing a smaller version of the Bedding Plants qal, as it fits on my design wall nicely. I’ve done 2 of the applique blocks so far & will do a post some time this week. Yours is looking good & co-ordinated, whereas mine is just random scraps. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next in our Lets Stay Home. Take care & hugs.
Just beautiful work on your design wall–even if it hangs off the edge! lol
I cut out my pieces and will find early morning sewing time tomorrow to catch up! Thanks for sharing!
The flowers blocks are so happy looking – I love lots of colours so these are perfect. Lucky you to have a design wall – I simply don’t have space to have even a teeny little one and end up using the floor.
I love your design wall! It might be the same or a little bigger than mine in the dining room. It looks wonderful with all those flowers on it. I so wish we were next door neighbors!
love all the bright flowers on the wall……they look great……..
