The mission to empty our storage container is almost at an end… and I am finding lots of treasures along the way!
For those of you who are new here, almost six years ago we packed up all our belongings and headed overseas for the fourth time…
Now we are home again and unpacking…
It’s funny going through what we stored… with some things I wonder what I was thinking to keep something like this! And with other things I say to myself – “oh! I was looking for this!! I’m glad I kept it!”
When we packed everything into the container, we had three able bodied teenagers to help carry everything over there… And my dad packed it all in like a puzzle…
Almost six years later it is just DH, DD and I unloading and unpacking… since we are still in lockdown we can’t get any outside help! So we have been doing a bit at a time.. until last weekend… we really got stuck into it, and it didn’t take long to find the really good stuff!
First treasure we found…
My industrial Juki sewing machine! I think DH was more excited to see it than I was – he has plans to sew canvas for our camper trailer with it!
Another treasure I found was this sewing box:
I got this box when I was 8 or 9, and still remember how excited I was to get it! It was made in Indonesia, where we were living at the time, and I loved all the little compartments in it….
That pincushion and pin holder is about forty years old… it should really go in the bin, but I haven’t brought myself to do that yet!
We can now see the back wall of the container, so we are nearly there! Another weekend of hard work and it will be empty I think….
In sewing news, I managed to stay awake enough to Skype sew with Alice on Sunday night, and finished chain sewing hundreds of 2 1/2″ squares together:
Next step is to turn them into four patches….
My motto at the moment is “one step at a time”…. we will get there… I hope!
Isn’t it fun to find those treasures, Joy? I too have thought when I find something, “Why on earth did I save that?!” Just a different time in our lives!! I hope you are able to finish it up soon.
Baby steps will get you there, Joy! It’s funny how when things are out of sight, they’re out of mind! They say if you’re hesitant to rid yourself of things that you think you may need or want to keep, put them in a box and label it for three months or even one month out and see if you retrieve anything from it during that time. If not, pitch it, or donate the entire box. I think you could even put it a year out. Whatever you want! I’ve done this and have never needed any of it and don’t remember what I had. Old age helps with that!!!
I’m so sorry about your lockdown and all. Better days are ahead of us!
It has to be fun (if you overlook the hard work!) unpacking and re-discovering your treasures, even if some things aren’t quite as ‘treasured’ now as they once were!
You are making wonderful progress. What a neat sewing box. I like how you chain stitched and got a bunch done at one time.
After 6 years I would have completely forgotten what was in there and it would be like a full on Christmas…. so fun finding your treasures! and get soem sewing time in too….
Hugz
This is real progress!!!! How exciting! The uncovered machine and the treasure of a sewing box is really cool! Hooray!
Love the sewing box, it’s beautiful. Hugs, xx

How wonderful to find your treasurers….. And that you nearly have the container empty…. That will be wonderful…..
Glad you are finally getting to unpack and settle in one place at last
