What a Mess!

Being home again is wonderful.. but at the moment it is a bit of a mess!
After renting our home out for five years, we expected there would be some work to be done to it. We were pleasantly surprised by the condition of the house, however. There has been wear and tear, but nothing that a bit of paint won’t fix.
Outside, however, is a different matter.
Our house is an old house… and our town does not have sewerage, so we are all on septic tanks, and after all these years, we need a new one.
Thanks to new rules and regulations, it is going to cost a small fortune and we are going to lose most of our trees.. like this beautiful gum tree:
They came to chop it, and a bunch of other trees down on Friday. These old fruit trees need to go as well:
Sadly that first one is a lovely pear tree, that gave us heaps of pears each year.
On the positive side, we will have enough fire wood to last a while…
We are also putting solar panels on, and the plumber came today to dig trenches for all the wiring, as well as pipes for the septic.
Access to my studio is temporarily difficult:
And I can’t get to the back door…
It’s going to be a mess for a while outside, but when it is all done it will be great! I will plant some more fruit trees, and hopefully I’ll still have space in the back yard to have a veggie garden and chooks….
In other news… unpacking continues and I uncovered a bunch of quilts I forgot I had! I am washing them because they smelled musty after being in storage for so long, and then I will take photos to show you!
Life is never boring around here 🙂
Know you must be happy to be back home even with all the work to be done. Hope all goes smoothly.
Oh, my! I must say it looks like a bit confusing right now but hoping they get their jobs done in no time!
Oh my goodness. I hope everything gets sorted out soon and in place before too long. So sorry about your trees, but hopefully the new ones you plant soon will grow quickly and produce for you. Have a good week…if you can!!
Sounds like a major undertaking! Losing trees always hurts especially large ones. Hopefully trees grow more rapidly there than here in Canada! Good luck on all your endeavors.
Life loves to challenge us–whether we are home owners or renters–
at least you can hope and believe that once this is redone–it will last for years to come–
and solar panels are always a good way to go–
take care and be careful you don’t slip in the mud and get hurt–we need you to keep us stitching!
hugs, diane
Don’t you just love new regulations (ha). It seems they always make a job cost more and one thing leads to another and you are left with the mess to clean up. At least that is the way it is around where I live. Hopefully it will be completed quickly and you can get back into your studio.
I imagine you must be wishing for a little boredom right about now! I heard something on the news just yesterday about putting stale milk into the septic system – evidently it helps the ‘good’ whatever-it-is-that-makes-it-work to do whatever it is it needs to stay healthy. Who knew!!
So sorry you’re losing those wonderful trees though.
Hi Joy, so sorry for the mess and losing your trees. Hooefully it will be back to normal soon.. Nancy
What a shame about your beautiful trees, however starting with a clean slate can also be exciting as you plan the new plantings. How exciting to discover some ‘new’ quilts! Good luck with your sorting and tidying up!
Here’s hoping it takes less time than estimated!
I think you will have your hands full for a while – but as you say “when it’s all done….”
Good Luck!
(Certainly a shame about the nig old trees)
Shame about the trees, but good re supply of wood, it will be great when its all done!
