When I woke up last Friday, the power was off.. and had been off since 5 am…. The night before we had some wild storms and trees were down, sheds blown away, and all sorts of damage around the state.
Thankfully we had no damage… half of our trees were already down as you saw in my last post… although we did lose some sheets of laserlite, never to be seen again. Someone will be very happy with them!
So, the power was out…. and stayed out till 7 pm!
Our whole house runs on electricity, so out came the camping stove:
And although the electric fan didn’t work on the wood heater, we still got enough heat from it to take the edge off the cold in the house:
OOOOH, I didn’t notice till, now, but see what is on the right of the photo???!!!! You weren’t meant to see that yet 🙂
You don’t realize how much you rely on power until you don’t have it.
- cooking
- boiling the kettle
- heating
- hot water
- charging phones
- internet
- SEWING!
and so much more!
As we got to 6pm and no sign of power returning, I got out candles and DH got out camping lights…
But at around 7pm it came back on again! Our sons in town didn’t get theirs back till 9pm, and there are some across the state who still don’t have it back a week later!!!
Yesterday ours was off again for about 6 hours while they did the solar panels. This time we were a little more prepared 🙂
Lost and Found Fabric
On that same Friday I FOUND my missing fabric for Let’s Stay Home Block 7!! I found it in my cutting mat bag…… where I must have thought it was safe….
I must say I was getting worried… I thought I would need to buy new fabric and do lots of unpicking! Thankfully it’s all good now….
Afternoon Tea
I forgot to tell you, but we are finally out of lockdown! Our whole state! So now we can visit each other in our homes again.
So last Sunday we went and had our first visit with friends, since all the restrictions started…
We had a lovely cuppa and afternoon tea…
And Robyn showed my what she had been working on in her sewing room…. She made this gorgeous patchwork wrap around skirt for her DIL:
She also showed me this cute decorated back that she was given:
Now wouldn’t that make a fun Christmas gift for someone?
That’s pretty much the news from my little corner of the world…. I still can’t get into my studio, the ditch is still there… but I have kept myself busy by unpacking more boxes (I think I am NEARLY at the end!!!) and other mundane things like housework… speaking of housework, I finally got November’s free printables up. And while I was at it, I put up December’s… can you believe how quickly the year has gone by?
Oh, and in case you don’t get my newsletter, I have also split up my printables from my embroidery shop on Etsy…
Our Embroidery Patterns are still in the original shop:
Well, that’s it for this long post…. if you made it till the end, I’m impressed! Thanks for reading and visiting..
I hope you have a lovely weekend!
I’m so glad you had no major damage from the storms and you at least had some heat with the wood heater. Our power was out for nine hours one day a couple of weeks ago for “upgrading equipment” in our neighborhood, so I totally understand missing the conveniences we have grown to love!! In 1993 we had 18″ of snow and no power for three days. In that house we had a wood/coal free standing heater and a fire place insert and thankfully lots of wood and coal!! We used the snow as a refrigerator!! If nothing else, we can all be creative in situations when we need be, right?! I hope you are warm and cozy now. And I’m very happy to hear you are out of lockdown! Have a great weekend, Joy!
Glad to hear that you are out of lockdown! Stay safe and warm! Hope you don’t have anymore power outages. I have a treadle machine and two hand crank sewing machines, so I can always sew!
So good to be able to get out and see friends again….
Hugz
Wow–weather can be brutal. It is hard to go without power; our lives are so connected now! Take care!
Yay for Victoria being out of lockdown. I’ll be glad when border restrictions lift so i can visit Mum in NSW. Cross fingers etc that nothing changes the Premier of good old QLD’s mind. :). I hope you don’t lose power again. Hugs, xx
Good to talk yesterday & so glad you found the missing bits. Lucky we didn’t have the power out, but the trees down around here will take well into the new year to be cleared completely. When you are more sorted with the groundworks, we’ll be able to get across & yay for being out of lockdowns for the time being. We hope to get to see our boys and grandchildren soon in N.S.W., some we haven’t seen for 2 to 3 years. Take care & hugs. PS: I’ll try and get back into blogging.
Hi Joy, That is a neat camp stove. I am quilty of putting things away and then no remembering where I put them. Good thing you found your material. Glad your electric came back on. We are not well prepared for electric being off unless we don’t lose gas also. We have a gas fireplace and a gas cookstove so hoping they both don’t go off at once! Nancy
That’s a long time to be without power! A shame you lost the panels but at least there was no damage to your property. We have a tractor run generator to run the cowshed if the power goes off during milking, but nothing for the house; we’d be like you camping cookers and candle light! Great you’re out of lockdown – looks like you enjoyed your first visit out!
Having the occasional power outage just makes us appreciate it more. Glad to hear you’re out of lockdown and hopefully it will last. Things are slowly opening up here too but we’re not comfortable with being out too much so we’re happy to continue to stay home as much as we can.
We don’t often have the power out, thankfully. I do have emergency candles and heat and a few other preparations for if it happens, though! And lots of warm quilts if it happens in winter. I’m glad yours came back on and you could stay warm with the stove even without the fan.
