Welcome to Day 2 of the Polar Bear Plunge Blog Hop, hosted by the lovely Joan from Moosestash Quilting
I can’t believe it is nearly the end of January, and that I haven’t blogged since the last blog hop!!! Oh well, since I closed 2021 off with a blog hop I might as well start off 2022 with a fun hop as well!
For this blog hop, Joan’s challenge for us was to make something inspired by bears, blue, or the cold….
Of course being in the southern hemisphere, we are in the middle of summer and a heat wave! Today’s forecast is for 32C (which according to google is 89.6F). In either case it is HOT!
How I wish it was winter… it truly is my favorite season of the year! But for now, I will live vicariously through all the cold themed blog posts for this new blog hop!
As I was working out what to make for this hop, I came across this fat quarter bundle, and decided it would be perfect…
It’s blue and wintery (just ignore the Christmas trees!).. and perfect to make….
Soup Bowl Cozies 🙂
I used Susan’s tutorial here to make these… To make it quicker and easier, I made a template for the “darts”:
It was much quicker to do it this way than to measure it out with a ruler each time.
Of course it did make me wish I had already bought the Accuquilt Go! Big Bowl Cozy Die (affiliate link) , which would have made it even quicker! But it’s still on my wish list, so I will have to wait…..
I’m very happy with the way they turned out, because I LOVE soup, and I needed more of these bowl cozies. I also promised mum I’d make her some.. so we will keep two, and I’ll give two to her…
But for now they will stay on the shelf until our heat wave is over….
I’ll be all prepared when we get our own cold winter weather later in the year!
Thank you Joan for hosting this fun blog hop! Check out the others who are sharing some cold projects with us today:

I’ve got a lot of news to bog about in the coming weeks, but until then, thank you so much for visiting… and I’d love to know, is it hot or cold where you are now?
Awesome bowl cozies. I was recently just gifted some in a holiday swap last year and I love them.
In Texas it is cold and it rained all day yesterday.
Cute bowl cozies! If you want some cold and snow, I would be more than willing to share. 🙂
When I made bowl cozies last year, I too used a template foe the darts! Much faster when you make 12 cozies for Christmas gifts! Also, they also work great when eating ice cream while sitting on the patio! Just sayin! Not just for soup! !
Bowl cozies were a great idea for the hop! I call this time of year “soup season” so they’re very appropriate in my opinion. You’re welcome to some of our snow and ice if you like.
Well it is cold, and we have lots of snow, but after all it’s winter here so to be expected. Bowl cozies are perfect for our house, for anything I heat up that isn’t to big a portion. Keeps my food hotter as well, Yours look quite elegant.
Beautiful bowl cozies! I need to make some for us. Since it’s only 6 degrees F here this morning, maybe this is a good day to do that! LOL Thanks for sharing!
I love your bowl cozies, and the template for darts is clever. These are on my list to make, eventually. Thank you for sharing!
Pretty and functional contribution to the Blog Hop!! When I made my ONE bowl cozy, I took an even lazier route than you. I measured one corner and used the off-cut corner to cut the rest! :o))
Those are such useful and pretty bowls. I made 2 about a year ago (mine didn’t have the points on them) and I used all cotton everything, but even with the quilt stitching, they shrunk up a bit. Maybe I will make some more and quilt more densely. You have inspired me to make a couple more. Love your fabric choice.
Your bowl cozies are pretty. I eat as much soup in the summer as I do in the winter so I wouldn’t have to wait to use them. Of course one could make some for each season.
Those turned out great. And thanks for the tip on marking the darts! That will come in handy.
I love the fabric choice for your bowl cozies! Great idea to make templates and I agree that the Accuquilt die would sure make it easier. Thanks for sharing, Joy!
Oh Joy, you know what they say…the grass is always greener. While your roasting, it is colder than cold here and the snow is blowing. I would love to be hot for a change. LOL!!! Just how did you know that what is on my to do list, is bowl holders today? I have to make some for a friend. I love your fabrics and the 4 patch on yours. Now, I have loads of inspiration here. Thanks for making my day, and playing along with us.
Great bowl cozies! I didn’t even know Accuquilt made a die for that. I’ll have to check it out.
In northern Michigan, it’s 12F or -11C. So, yes, we are eating soup – a lot! Your bowl cozies look so cute and simple that I might make a few. Oh, and since I live in the pines, those trees aren’t just Christmas trees; they’re year-round trees (even with the stars since stars shine over the trees). 😉
Nice bowl holders……I must need to eat more soup…..32 is a great summer temp….. We’ve had a pretty mild summer so far…… Much humidity this year with all the moisture and rain…… Suppose that’s a good problem……….
Must admit I am loving seeing the snow pics also
Oh yes bowl cozies–they are so pretty–
I just made my first ones the last week of December–as a Birthday gift for my future daughter in law-Sarah–done in Flamingo fabrics–but have not been able to give them to her (her birthday was Dec 29th) as her and my son had Covid–may get to see them later this week-
glad to hear from you–
hugs, di
Your soup bowl cozies are perfect. I could use some. My bowls are always too hot coming out of the microwave. 🙂
Great bowl cozies. I have 2 someone gave me and I use them daily.
Hi Joy, those are really cute! Enjoy the heat…because it all goes by too quickly 🙂 You’ll be seeing snow soon enough.
What a great idea! Love them!
I love your bowl cosies – made a bunch last year and use them all the time. Like you summer is a tough time for me…. but I moan when it’s too cold also!! haha
Hugz
Your fabric definitely says winter hug not Christmas to me. I love your Amish figurine.
Those cozies live up to their name. Thank you for sharing your wonderful project.
What pretty fabrics for your cozies! I like the idea of using the templates!
It is winter here-a few freezes will happen even here in Florida, US.
lovely bowl cozies I need to make some of these for myself well done
Great Joy, I have a couple near the microwave that I use for more than soup bowls. Def not cold here, it’s HOT and humid!! Bring on winter, hope to see you soon??
I have had these on my list for quite a while. Your fabrics are a great choice!
Your bowl cozies are great, Joy! We use ours all the time. Great project!
A great make, Joy – which reminds me – I need to make some cosies for myself – every winter I vow to make some but don’t get around to it – maybe if I start thinking about it now, I’ll be ready for winter!!
I live in Florida,USA and it is generally warm to hot. This week we are running a bit chilly. Monday we actually had frost. Love your cozies. I really need to make a few new ones for myself. Mine date back several years to when they made their first appearance at craft showes. Never thought about using fat quarters. Yours are so sweet and have given me another goodie to add to my to do list.
Joy your bowl cozies are perfect. I need to make some since it’s snowing here today in British Columbia, Canada. Thanks for the link to the tutorial.
Love your bowl cozies and while you wait for the warming soups, you can always use them for icecream in the meantime.
