A Visit to Peppermint Stitches in Brisbane

Today I’m taking you back to Brisbane, and what we did the day after the wedding…. yes, a visit to a quilt shop called Peppermint Stitches!
We booked six nights away in Brisbane, because we thought while we were up there we might as well have a little holiday.
The day before the wedding we did a bit of shopping in a mall nearby, and then the day after the wedding I dragged Dad to a specific quilt shop…. the reason? Well, I promised the bride and groom a quilt…… I asked them last year to pick out the fabric and post it to me because if I am making a quilt for someone, especially a wedding quilt, I want it to be fabric they love.
I also asked them to choose a pattern, and they picked a herringbone quilt. I googled to see if there were any patterns or instructions and came across the video tutorial by Missouri Star on Youtube.
Of course you know me, I left it to the last minute because I had so many other things I was trying to do and it looked pretty easy…
Well it was… I sewed and sewed until I had a few hundred blocks…
Sadly those few hundred blocks were not going to make a king size quilt, because I ran out of fabric….. A quick trip to a local quilt shop gave me two more fabrics that could match, but still not enough… so I threw the towel in and decided I’d get some more when I was up in Brisbane for the wedding.
DD informed me that wedding etiquette allows for the gift to be given anytime in the first year of marriage.
So I still have time 🙂
I asked Emily where they had bought the fabric, and hence the trip to Peppermint Stitches. (I had to have a legitimate excuse, right?!)
Uber got us to the shop and you know it is going to be a good one when you see big “Bernina” signs in the window!
Inside was just lovely….
On their website they say they are “one of Brisbane’s nicest and friendliest Patchwork and Sewing Machine stores” and I can certainly agree with that statement!
I had brought samples of the fabrics in the quilt and the lady was very helpful in finding all of them so that I could buy more…
While she hunted down the fabric, I had a good look around the shop….
I was good and did not buy one of these:
So what did I buy?
More than enough fabric to finish the wedding quilt (although I realized when I got home I forgot to get more cream… argh!!!)
And some goodies just for me……… the lovely lady gave me the cute Moda needlebook!
I saw this cute layer cake called Make Time (affiliate link) with pins, needles and other sewing notions, so I had to have that.. and this gorgeous jelly roll from the Spring Chicken (aff link) collection….. Have I ever told you I love chooks (chickens)?
And a quilt kit with pattern from Cluck, Cluck, Sew!
In case I didn’t have enough to do, I have some more goodies to play with now!
I really enjoyed my visit to Peppermint Stitches and will go back one day if I get the chance!
So, I’m curious… do any of you lovely readers of my blog live in or near Brisbane? And if so, have you ever been to this quilt shop?
That looks like a delightfully fun place to visit. Sadly I’m too far away in the U.S. So, thanks for the virtual trip. I really like the Make Time fabric. Now, however, I must go make time to clean up my kitchen.
I’ve recently finished a quilt made using mostly fabrics from Peppermint Stitches. It’s a beautiful shop.
enJOYed your visit.
Well obviously I’m not in Brisbane, but if ever I am….
Looks like you had a great wee visit.
Peppermint Stitches is a wonderful shop. I haven’t been there in ages but i enjoyed visiting when i did go. They do great mail orders too. 🙂 Hugs, xx
Sigh. I can’t remember when I last was able to visit a quilt shop – it’s been more than two years I know (for obvious reasons). Maybe one day soon I’ll be able to go.
I’m in Brisbane – I do love that shop – but find parking a nightmare so don’t go often. Easy if you go by Uber!
I’m sure they can mail order some cream for you….I see you made up for not buying a new machine by buying fabrics . . LOL
Hope you enjoyed BNE
Don’t you hate it when you forget one thing. The quilt shop is so fun. Thanks for the tour.
Your fabric choices and patterns look like hours of fun.
lloks like a good place to drop in and visit…. glad you found what you needed for the wedding quilt
Hugz
