I’m wrapping up the posts on our trip to Brisbane, mostly because there isn’t much else to say, because our little holiday came to an abrupt end….
After Dad and I went to Peppermint Stitches, we went back to our apartment for lunch, and that was where I got a phone call from my sister…. she sounded pretty serious….
We had arranged to go to Ikea together the next day, but, she said, “I’ve got bad news.”…. no trip to Ikea, rather, a quick exodus from Brisbane for them.. and, as it turned out, for us as well.
She had just heard that her DFIL had tested positive to the dreaded ‘rona… and to avoid possibly passing it on to the family they were staying with (in case they had also been affected), they were packing up to head home right away.
That left us in a quandary…. we had been in pretty close contact with him as well, but were not set to go back for another four days. But if we ended up with symptoms, we could not in good conscience go on a plane home and possibly infect others. After debating and googling we decided we’d better change our flights and go home that same night, as supposedly we would not be contagious yet (according to Dr Google…)
So that found us back at Melbourne airport around midnight, waiting for our suitcases….
We made it back home just before 2am and tumbled into bed exhausted… and I must admit the next few days we wandered around a bit lost, after packing up in such a hurry!
We isolated until we were able to get tested, and despite DD and I having some symptoms, we were all negative, thankfully. I tested three times, over a period of a week, and each time I was negative.
The day after we got home we heard that another person at the wedding, not related to us, had also tested positive.. .and over the next week there were quite a few other positive cases, including the bride and groom!!
Thankfully most people weren’t too sick – we all had to be vaccinated to be at the wedding so I am sure that helped. But this is what life is like at the moment, isn’t it? We were all still so very thankful we were able to be there….
And thus ended our little trip to Brisbane! Maybe one day we can go back and stay a little longer, but it won’t be in the near future!
In other news….
Goodies arrived in the mail!!
I got the kit for Lori Holt’s Chicken Salad Sewalong!
I bought the kit from the Fat Quarter Shop (affiliate link) since we couldn’t get it here, but I managed to get the templates from one of our local shops.
I had fun unpacking and then folding up all the fabrics…
The fabric line is called Cook Book (aff link) and I just love it! It’s so pretty!
The fabric arrived just in time because the sewalong starts on Monday… I can’t wait to get started!
If I’m correct, the actual pattern will be free, but I’ll get back to you on that. So, you could join in with me using your own stash! I think it will be fun!
Ok, it’s bedtime… but stay tuned because not only does Lori’s sewalong start on Monday, but our next blog hop does too!
It’s called Tickled Pink and is hosted by the lovely Carla from Creatin’ in the Sticks…
It’s my day on Monday and my project is ready (amazingly enough)!
I hope I’ll see you then!
Sorry to hear that your trip got cut short Joy but how lucky you were able to enjoy the wedding before covid hit. Oh I do love your new fabric – that will be a great QAL.
Rough ending to a wonderful trip but so glad you weren’t very ill.
What a shame you needed to leave early – but that is unfortunately how the word is these days>
Intersting Cheicken Salad coming up!
I had to get the Chicken Salad calendar, so cute. I love chickens.
So sorry your trip was cut short but evidently it was a wise decision. At least you can console yourself with a fun new project.
Hello Joy,
Glad all is now reasonably well with you and your family 😉
I’m planning to start the Gingerbread sew/quilt along. Do you have an approximate calculation of the fabric requirements for the pieced block portions? I have some of the same Bunny Hill holiday line you used, but in short supply! My local shop still has a little, so hoping to buy enough to complete this project 🙂
Thanks in advance!
