Welcome to Day 1 of the Time in a Bottle Blog Hop, hosted by the lovely Carol from Just Let Me Quilt!
Our challenge was to make something with an hour glass block in it…
I thought this time I would hunt around the web to see if there were any fun patterns that I could use, and I came across St Gregory’s Cross and Hourglass (affiliate link)- a free pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop.
I quite liked the block – it finished at 18″, so a nice big one, perfect for a table topper if I added a border.
I chose the fabrics in honor of Ukraine – blue and yellow. I changed up the fabric arrangement a bit, added a 3 1/2″ border, and ended up with this as my project for this hop:
Since I was sick last week I didn’t get it quilted, but will hopefully get to it in the next few weeks. It is going to be a table topper to go on our back veranda….. when we redo that 🙂
Now I have to add that it was a fun quilt block to make – but I would not want to make a whole quilt with these blocks because there are far too many points to try to match!!! I must admit to some unpicking….! I was glad I only made the one block!
Thank you Carol for hosting this blog hop, and thank you to everyone for dropping by! Make sure you visit the others who are showing us their projects today:

Well done & I do like that block. Lucky to find one a bit out of the box. Hope you are feeling better. Take care and hugs.
Now this is a very pretty layout! Good job!
Nice block Joy, and it looks quite complete on its own – no need to make more of them! I hope you’re feeling welll enough to get it completed soon.
Beautiful block! I can see why just one was enough for you though
Good morning Joy. I do hope you are feeling much better today. Thanks for creating a sweet table topper from the hourglass block. Very clever.
Very pretty! I love your poignant color choice.
Love your block, and the colors are perfect. I’m working with Ukraine colors right now too. Looking forward to seeing your finish!
I’m sure I would have done some unpicking with that block too. But you’ve made a nice job of it and a nod to Ukraine which will always keep thoughts of the people from that country in your mind as you look at your table topper.
I hope you are feeling better this week. No fun being under the weather. Love your topper with such a strong message in today’s time. I have to say, you had me at veranda. I can just imagine sipping lemonade on the veranda with you, enjoying the topper! LOL!! A girl’s gotta dream right?
Great table topper! I hope you and your family are doing better this week!
Beautiful quilt block, and I really like the colors that you’ve used. Thanks for sharing!

That is a lovely tribute to Ukraine. One of my favorite color combinations has always been yellow with blue. You will get it finished when you are ready,
As our hearts break for the Ukranian people, you made the perfect colors as a tribute to them. Thank you for sharing this beautiful block, Joy!
Pretty table topper, love the colors. It will make an awesome addition to any table.
I noticed right away that it was the blue/yellow for Ukraine. What a lovely way to commenorate this TIME of history and also incorporating the Ukraine into this TIME blog hop.
Such a nice large block!!! It’ll make a perfect table center! Lovely fabrics, too, thinking and praying for Ukraine.
Love your name, Joy. Your creativity is great with your rendition of Time in a bottle expanded. thanks for sharing.

What a great block and a whole quilt of them would be amazing, but so much work for sure. I love the sentiments of the colors you chose, too.
I really like your table topper! And what a great tribute to the Ukraine!
Lovely and cheerful for your outdoor table.
Lovely block, and, yes, lots of points to match. You did a good job of getting that done!

Your block turned out very pretty!
Another great block to add to my list. Thanks for link to directions. It turned out great! I’m sure it’s making a great table topper in today’s world. Now if to blog hop for other ideas.
That’s a lovely big block well done
Great project and it’s going to be fab as a table topper. I see what you mean by lots of points to match up. Eeek! You did a fab job. I’m more of a ‘finished is better than perfect’ type of quilter 😉
Thats a lovely block…. you did well with those points….

Pretty block Joy. Hope you are feeling better
You’re a braver woman than I could ever be! One look at all those points and I’d be needing a little lie down until the urge to make it passed.
Beautiful colors, looks like Spring.
Hope you are feeling better. This will be a lovely table topper once you get it quilted.
