I knew there was a squirrel I forgot to tell you about… and it’s the RSS Summer Sewalong!
I’ve been trying to learn how to use Instagram…. I have real life friends and internet friends there, some of whom used to be bloggers and switched over and others who find blogging overwhelming and prefer insta. Then of course all the clever bloggers who manage to “do it all”…
I must admit to using a scheduler, because every time I have tried to post on Instagram or Facebook regularly, I have failed abysmally… Much as I hate the thought of “scheduling” anything (I never schedule blog posts either) I have started doing that with Instagram and Facebook.
So far it seems to be working… I am only scheduling a few days in advance (not weeks!) and I find that helps me not be on social media every single day, but still be able to enjoy the friendships there and make new friends… Of course it is turning out to be another place to find squirrels!
The Summer Sewalong
I had never heard of Ruby Star Society (SSS) until I saw the post about the sewalong on Instagram. Of course I was curious as to what the sewalong was all about, so I clicked on the link and found the details….
Check out the RSS Summer Sewalong here!
I did think twice about joining in, but it is a quick and easy sewalong, which is right up my alley. It is also only on Instagram, so this is my first Instagram sewalong!
Week 1 was all about cutting the fabric. I chose to start Christmas in July early and used some of Lori Holt’s Cozy Christmas range (affiliate link). I also decided to only go with three fabrics:
When I saw how many 5″ squares we had to cut, I brought in the big guns – my Accuquilt Studio and 5″ die (aff links):
In no time at all I had 225 five inch squares cut out!
At times like these, using my Accuquilt really does save time.
While it was out, I cut out more bits and pieces, but that is for another blog post…
By the way, if you don’t already have a Go! cutter, or if you do and you need more dies, they have a great sale on until the end of June (after which prices are going up!):
Shop here for Accuquilt USA 25% off till the end of June
Shop here for Accuquilt Australia and get 15% off till the end of June
Now you don’t need to be on Instagram to actually make the quilt – it is a free pattern on their blog, so you can still download it and join in. It’s called the Perfect Picnic Quilt and is super easy… I’ll keep you posted on how I’m going with it here on the blog, as well as on my Instagram.
If you’re on Instagram, feel free to leave your account link/name/handle or whatever it is called, lol (see how instagram savvy I am!) and I will follow you!
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend,
That looks like a very do-able quilt Joy. I love the fabrics you have chosen and of course Christmas time and picnics go hand in hand at our end of the world!
I did wonder about the quilt when i saw your IG post. My thought was “i don’t recall Joy mentioning that one” lol. Look forward to seeing your quilt. Hugs
Great fabric choices and looks like a fun project. I haven’t succumbed to Instagram and have a very limited presence on Facebook. A lot of my favourite bloggers made the switch to Instagram but some of them are returning to blogging. I figure I spend too much time on the computer as it is!
Your Christmas in July quilt in those fabrics is going to look fabulous, Joy. What a fun site Ruby Star Society is. Thank you for sharing the link.
Another project? You’re amazingly busy with so much & I’ve still not quilted your last sewalong in 2021. I don’t do FB or IG & spend too much time playing around on my device anyway , so I won’t be joining in, but will enjoy your progress. Take care and hugs.
I never check out instagram-I like blogs! And blogging!
The new QAL looks like fun!
