It’s about time I did a proper post about the two churn dash quilts I am working on for Chookies Churn Dash sewalaong…
On a side note, I’m back home again from a lovely week at Judy’s! I will devote a whole post to that next week, I had so much fun with Judy and her Fairy… but first I need to get this churn dash post done!
Chookies Churn Dash Sewalong
Like a bunch of other bloggers, I decided to join in on Chookie’s churc Dash SAL… I thought it looked like fun and if you can believe it, I don’t think I’ve done a churn dash quilt, so even better!
I was only planning on doing one…. but then I told Alice and of course she had this pattern saved on her computer, so we decided we needed to do that one because it looked really cool….
So, I’ll tell you about both quilts in this post 🙂
Churn Dash Quilt # 1`
For the first churn dash quilt I thought I’ll just design something simple on EQ7… after a bit of playing I decided to put the blocks on point and came up with this:
Simple, but still sweet I think.
I made some planning pages to keep me on track and started on the blocks. This is where I was at when I left for Judy’s:
Yeah, a bit behind 🙂
By the time I left Judy’s I was all caught up:
I love ticking things off my list!
So Chookie, I’m on track with this one!
Churn Dash Quilt # 2`
Next up is the Barn Dance, and this one is a heck of a lot more work, but it’s going to be great!
Planning pages made up for it as well of course:
And when I left for Judy’s I had June done, but only two of July’s blocks done.
So that was the first thing I started working on at Judy’s – cutting and sewing more churn dashes….
The first blocks I worked on were 6 1/2″. There’s Block A and Block B in this size. I had 3 more of Block A to make to get a total of 20… so I did that, and then started on Block B…. This was when I realized I had left some of the Block B pieces at home!!! So I made three block B’s and here is the result of that:
I had brought plenty of fabric with me (I’m using Lori Holt scraps), so I then started on the 12 1/2″ blocks.
I had brought my Baby GO! with me…
And I borrowed one of Judy’s dies for the half square triangles – so much quicker and easier!
Here are all the blocks I’ve done so far, big and small:
I’m happy to say I’m all caught up on this one too 🙂
I will try to get them all on the design wall tomorrow, and put up a pic….
Now I did a lot more at Judy’s and will report on that later in the week… for now I need to go to bed and tomorrow I need to unpack, visit blogs, reply to comments, etc, etc…… but at least I’m happy to say I am nicely on track with both churn dash quilts!
I love your planning pages, Joy! Please share how you made those!
You made great progress. Love the barn dance version. There are a few people making that one.
Love the blocks for both quilts. Great progress on both.

Oh my! I fell in like with the first design and thought it was gorgeous and then…then….I saw the second one and, fickle as I am, decided it was even more gorgeous. I will live vicariously through you though and enjoy watching yours unfold!

I love both the churns you are planning…..and the blocks are all looking great……both options……..
