My Little Sewing Holiday

Ok, what happened to the week and how did it get to be Saturday so quickly?????!!!!
I started this post earlier in the week, because I wanted to finish telling you about my little sewing holiday at Judy’s…. better late than never I guess!
It really was a little holiday because DH booked me a motel half way on the way up and way back, so I got to take the driving in two hour stints, instead of in one go…
The motels were not as great as the 5 star accommodation I had at Judy’s though, lol!!
Judy had my room set aside for me… I didn’t take photos of my room this time, but there is one in this post.
I didn’t take as much with me as the last time, thank goodness, but the car was still full enough.
I had the red carpet treatment when I arrived, with Judy and Raylene, aka the Fairy, coming outside to greet me!! That’s what happens I guess when a pandemic stops friends from meeting up for so long!
I’ve already shown you some of the things I was working on, but here is the rest of what happened that week….
Judy and I both started on the churn dashes… by the time I got there Judy had already made all her blocks:
So while I was sewing mine, she started putting hers together…
Churn dashes were strewn out all over the place…
Meanwhile, the Fairy was busy putting together kits:
In between sewing churn dashes, Judy gave me some EQ7 tips… so my churn dash quilt went from:
It now has the fabric in it that I am using. Judy has EQ8 and I will probably upgrade one day – it looks a lot more user friendly.
I made the most of Judy’s big cutting area and cut out all the rest of the Beautiful Day blocks and put them in zippy pouches to go in my binder when I got home…. Now I can do one a week fairly easily…
I’m using these pouches and this binder (affiliate links)
As usual there was lots of delicious food!
We did have a few ladies drop by… Val had this quilt top to show us:
See Judy’s churn dashes on her “other” design wall 🙂
and I think I missed some other show and tells from visitors…. Judy and I mentioned a few times that we were too busy sewing and kept forgetting to take pics for the blog!!
Oh yes, when the Fairy ran out of kits to package, she started on ribbons…
I need a fairy of my own……………..
It was a wonderful week…. to be honest, while bigger “retreats” are fun, I really enjoyed it just being the three of us. We got to chat, share and encourage each other… it was truly a special time.
And now I shall finish off with a tale of a spider…..
One night, it was rather late… there were blocks to be finished, (just one more… just one more…) and something on tv to finish watching….but finally at around 11 we decided we’d better go to bed…
We had all gone to our own room, when I remembered I needed to put my ipad on the charger in the sewing room. So off I went in the dark… fumbled around, found the light, went back towards my little corner of the room and there what did I stumble upon?????
A spider.
A MASSIVE, HUMONGOUS SPIDER.
And it was staring at me.
I don’t like spiders.
So I stared back at it while I considered what to do…. Find a glass, went through my head… or a shoe… (but Judy’s carpet is very light colored, not sure she’d want a black stain on it)… and then it occurred to me that, being in a 5 Star establishment, I should call the management.
The management being the Fairy of course.
So I yelled out – Raylene!!!!!! Spider!!!!!!!!!!!
No response, so I yelled again… RAYLENE!!!!!! SPIDER!!!!!!!!!!!
Management (Raylene AND Judy), in pyjamas, came running…. FIRE???? they both said??????
Um, no, even worse, a SPIDER!!! (Did I mention it was a huge black one??? I mean Massive??)
Well, panic abated when they heard it was a spider, not a fire… and then they also went looking around them…
Raylene – where’s a tissue….
Joy – ummmm…
Judy – WHACK! (with her beautiful GRATITUDE JOURNAL of all things….)
Raylene – oh here’s a tissue, poor little fella….
And thus ended the saga of the fire, er spider…..
We all went to bed, and I for one, did not dream about spiders thankfully. Or fires. After further discussion the next day, we decided that I had probably brought him with me in my sewing trolley…. because Judy did not recognize him. We do have a crazy amount of spiders here, and I hope I haven’t offended anyone by this particular one’s demise. I am not a fan of spiders, especially not since we have so many poisonous ones here.
I don’t think I will ever live the spider story down… and I must say we were in stitches the next day thinking about it… but I do hope next time I go there it will be a spider free 5 star holiday destination….
Ok this has taken me long enough to write and get posted…!!! Tomorrow I am going to sew and next week I should have some more progress to show you…
Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!
Sounds like a wonderful week! My daughter is that way with spiders too.
Having grown up in the Philippines, I can imagine how big that spider was. And I would have done exactly as Judy did…with anything at hand. The churn dash blocks look so lovely and inspiring. Now that it’s too hot to work outside anymore today, I may get to some sewing myself.
Lovely time except for the spider scare – I’m with you on those and calling the management was the right think to do…
Great sewing – small groups are great
Hugz
laughing!! (didn’t want to use the emoji of ‘rolling on floor…’ in case there was a spider….)
Food and quilts look wonderful!
I’d have given the spider the same treatment as you. Not a fan.
Looks like you all had a productive few days.
What a wonderful time at your retreat!!! The sewing and peacefulness sounds perfect. Leave out the spider–I abhor them, too!
Funny, I usually run out of the room, love reading about your adventures
Sounds like a wonderful trip. So I’m seeing bolts of fabric. Does your fairy own a fabric store? Sounds like a very fun place.
Oh goodness – I’m sorry but I have to say that I laughed at the spider story. Particularly the part obout whacking with a gratitude journal!
Looks like you had a marvelous time and managed to do a lot along with social time. Looks like you ate pretty well too!
loved all this except the spider as I too am terrified by black ones…….
