Time to look at how things went last week.. and to plan this week!
Last Week’s This and That
Last week was a bit bleh…. no particular reason, sometimes weeks are just like that.
I hung out with some squirrels, which didn’t help my to do list.. one of the squirrels was catching up on some homesteading channels that I watch on youtube. I love this time of the year because in the US it is when everyone is harvesting and putting things away for the winter. I love watching the canning and preserving videos and dream of the veggie garden I will put in this spring….
So I dragged out some of my garden and homesteading books:
And because I was definitely experiencing a case of FOMO, some of my canning books:
I am so thankful that we had a container to store these books, as well as all my preserving equipment, while we were in Arabia….
As I was flicking through the books, I realized that while I don’t have a veggie garden to harvest tomatoes and other such veggies at the moment, I could actually can some meat. So I’ll tell you more about that another day, but for now you can see I put a bunch of sticky notes on the recipes that I want to try….. Enough to keep me quite busy till spring I would think!
Last week I also went to pick up some more eggs. Until I get some chookies again, I am getting eggs from a friend… Fresh from the chooks’ bums:
Did you know that eggs start losing their freshness once you wash them? These still have the dirt on them (it’s been raining a lot), and I just give them a wipe before I put them away in the fridge.
Because I am a visual person, I also have this little picture printed from somewhere on the web, on the side of my fridge in case I wonder how long a dozen eggs have been sitting at the back of the fridge:
Last night I Skype sewed with Alice till well after midnight… (it was morning in the US). I finished these blocks:
We both worked on other churn dashes too, more on that tomorrow.
This post is long enough so I will split it up again and put up my to do list tomorrow…
Last but not least:
Monday Menu Plan:
Trying to keep costs down and since pork is the cheapest at the moment, will be having that twice this week. Everyone loves it, so that’s ok 😉

Tuesday – Roast Pork
Wednesday – Leftovers
Thursday – Cottage Pie
Friday – Creamy Fish Casserole
Saturday – Roast Pork
Sunday – Leftovers
I hope you all have a wonderful week! Share your plans with us and link below 🙂
Have you got a bit of This and That to share? Then join in!
You don’t need to have your post formatted the same way as I do, but you can if you want… Just link your blog post containing a recap of last week, or the weekend, or your plans for this week…. or any bit of this and that you want to share with us!
Oh, that Beautiful Day quilt is amazing. We are looking forward to a break in weather to get out of the heat and humidity! lol The eggs from my chickens looked just like that; 20yrs of raising chickens! They are wonderful fowl.
Such pretty churn dashes. 🙂 Thanks for joining Sew & Tell. Blessings! M
It’s lovely to see your churndashes and I look forward to seeing more next post!! Have fun planning your garden for all your preserves!! Interesting abut washed eggs – I will wash my eggs if they’re dirty and don’t have a problem with freshnesss….especially this time of the year when the chooks have dirty feet!
Doing well with the Churn Dashes & I too keep thinking about our veg garden, but this lousy weather is a real turnoff. Your menu sounds good. Take care and hugs.
Your fussy-cut churn dash blocks are so pretty!
Those churn dashes are so pretty. Enjoy your canning, preserving, homesteading books and the daydreaming they encourage. They brought back memories for me. I only do any canning or preserving now when I visit my son and DIL on the farm in the fall. 😉
I must admit I’ve never canned meat and have some trepidation about it. If we had a cold cellar in our apartment I would try it, but it’s far too warm to store much in the way of preserves. I sold all my canning equipment when we moved here but it seems I’m managing to accumulate it again so we can make the odd bit of pickle and jams.
