Welcome to Day 4 of the “Get on Board with Sewing” Blog Hop hosted by Melva and Brenda!
Have you had a chance to visit any of the others on the hop? You can find the full list of bloggers here! There’s a lot of creativity going on!!
This blog hop is in celebration of National Quilting Month in the US. Being in Australia, I’m joining in anyway 🙂 I’m also participating in Melva’s 30 day instagram challenge, posting a number of sewing related items corresponding with the date… you can see my posts here if you are instagram, but I will also do a round up on my blog at some stage.
Ok, on to my project for this hop!!!
I decided to take the theme literally and interpret it in a slightly different way than some of the blog hoppers… you might be mistaken in thinking this is another project for last month’s Travel Blog Hop, but it makes perfect sense to me for this hop… hopefully it will for you too!
Yes I have travel on my mind…. and when I saw the title I thought – I need to Get On Board (a plane) With SEWING…. of course…. 🙂
I do usually travel with some sewing or crochet, but it was time for an updated project bag.
Here is what I came up with:
I started off with one of Lori Holt’s Bee Keeper Binder Pocket Inserts – the ones I showed you in this post where I have been cutting and keeping fabric organized.
I then sewed up the other bits and pieces and sewed it to the plastic binder pocket insert!
So walking through what I can store in the front – there’s a spot between the plastic binder pocket and the back, to slip a pattern or something into, and then of course the binder pocket itself can have stuff in it:
If we flip it around to the back, there are three little pockets at the top that are just open, and then the larger zippered pocket at the bottom:
And the good thing about using the binder pocket from Lori instead of making my own plastic pocket (which I was initially planning on doing), is that it can go nicely in the binder when not in use:
I used the same fabric as the inside of the binder, so it kind of blends in, but you get the idea!
Now I am ready to Get On Board that plane in October With Sewing!!! Well, as soon as I work out what I’m taking to work on!!

Very clever and a good way to stay organized!
Great project bag, thanks so much for sharing!
What a clever take on “Get On Board”! I love your binder bag, isn’t it just so satisfying to use something you’ve made? Love the fabrics, Joy – nice job!
What a wonderful idea, Joy! This is perfect for organizing projects! Could you come to my house and organize all of mine??!! LOL Seriously this is great. I love your binder and pockets. This would be great to take to a retreat with all your goodies to sew inside. Thanks so much for sharing and joining us on this blog hop journey!
Neat binder!!! Cute fabrics!!!
I love the binder and the way you enhanced the binder envelopes….great idea! Do you use a special foot or needle to sew through the vinyl?
I don’t think you can ever have too many project bags. 🙂 Enjoy your trip!
What a fantastic idea!!! Thanks for sharing!
And, I hope you have fun “getting on board” a plane! 🙂
this is wonderful. have fun with your project when you get on board the plane.
LOVE the way it’s made for a binder! Double organization!
Sewing and quilting have no borders, so glad you joined in. Great inspiration to organize for any form of travel.
Pretty and practical.
those binder pages look great…. well organised
Hugz
Super idea! You always have great organizational tips.
Love that folder & well done getting it all done . See you very soon hopefully to catch up before you go. Take care and hugs.
This turned out so pretty! I’m always looking for a good way to store things AND have them look good! I have a set of binders that I keep in my studio. One has patterns from past projects, one has information that is still on paper – gasp! (rather than digital) and one inspirational photos.
