Welcome to the first Monday This and That for 2023!
I’ve had my little break from blogging and the outside world…… I’ve pretty much recovered from my Christmas bout of Covid… and ready to get back into planning, sewing, and blogging….
Last Week’s This and That
I managed to get into the sewing room and do some sewing!
Actually, I cut up a quilt…..
Why did I cut up a quilt? Well, it was my favorite everyday quilt… and it’s been falling to bits for a few years now. I finally got to the stage where I had to make a tough decision – do I toss it or salvage some of it?
I decided to salvage some of it and cut out two ovals to turn into a topper for my tea trolley:
I found a scrap of the green in my stash for the binding. I wasn’t sure how it would go binding a curved piece, but it went quite easily. I decided to use my machine binding method…
…. and I got one finished pretty quickly! It’s on the tea trolley now and I love the way it turned out:
Now all I need to do is sew the binding on the other oval and put it on the bottom bit of glass…. nothing lives on the bottom – it is a spot for the cats to sit, and they will love having a “quilt” to sit on!
The tea pot should have a cozy on it, but it’s in the wash… I should have a spare somewhere that I can dig up though, I’ll have to go hunting….
I also finished up the Gingerbread Village BOM and will put up instructions for that this week, and the Christmas SAL…. so stay tuned!
This Week’s This and That
I have no work outside the home scheduled this week, which means I can keep pottering around at home, which is nice.
I do however have to go to the dentist because I lost a filling this morning – ugh!

Making the ovals for the tea trolley was a good way to use the worn out quilt. Have a great day and happy stitching!
That was a great idea. They are beautiful. I have some very old quilts that I should repurpose but I haven’t gotten the nerve yet!
Kudos for having the bravery to salvage a cherished quilt into a new usable piece! The kitties will surely love having a warm quilted cover for their lower shelf, and you’ll enjoy seeing it every day.
What a nice idea to preserve your beloved quilt. And I’m glad you will add a quilt to the bottom for the kitties – it is all about them for sure. 😉 I like your decorative binding stitch and especially sewing it “right off the edge of the corner”. Enjoy your pottering!
What a great way to extend the life of a raggedy quilt! It looks great in the tea trolley!
I’m so glad that you’re doing even better now. And that is a truly beautiful way to salvage a favorite quilt – tea is always a great way to salvage lots of things in life. 🙂
I’m glad to hear you are feeling better. Love your repurposing of your quilt.
I love that you have extended the life of your quilt by recycling it into something else.

What a wonderful way to use a worn out quilt. Great idea.
I love your repurposing to keep using your quilt. Will you make another like it? I forgot about This and That. I’ll try to remember Monday next, but my faux granddaughter is spending the school holiday sewing with me, so might be late. =) My energy has been low this week after a terrible Monday start, and I’m not doing but bits of things, making a few decisions about projects, sewed ONE block so far this week!
Oh my. When I read about cutting into a quilt it was a good thing I was sitting down!! That would have been SO hard for me to do but the end result is definitely worth it.
What a great way to repurpose that cherished quilt, Joy! Beautiful. Thanks for linking up with Monday Musings!
