Well, here it is dear friends… my first challenge for all of us for the year…. to organize our homes in 2023…
We have been “home” for almost a year and a half now… I think I’ve already told you that our house was rented out while we were overseas… and last time we left we packed everything up into a 40ft container on our property, (including DH’s car!), so that we would not have to start from scratch when we came back.
It was great unpacking and seeing all the things that were in storage… but the problem was that we had accumulated more stuff in the 5 years we had been away. We had two house-fulls to fit into our home, plus what was in the container…..
So when we moved home I decluttered… I was ruthless with some things… and then in the new year I ran out of energy…. as I’ve said a few posts ago, 2022 wasn’t a good year, so I never actually finished decluttering and organizing my home.
As I was getting over Covid last week, I looked around the house and decided that this year would be the year!
I considered doing what I always do in January – go around the house madly and ruthlessly declutting and organizing and then burn out… but since I was still not feeling well, I stopped myself…. and told myself to give it the whole year to do it properly.
Hence the Organize Your Home in 2023 Challenge….
There are probably hundreds of people out there that are more qualified than me to host this challenge… but if you would like to muddle along with me this year, you are most welcome to!
I am setting up a new area on my website to host this challenge, and I will be posting the week’s challenge every Sunday evening… ready for the week to come.
There will be printables to help us on our journey… and I am thinking we will need some relevant stitcheries to keep us motivated – don’t you think?
I’ll see you on Sunday!
You are actually way ahead of me. I packed everything 6 years ago into a container and moved into a new house. I still have quite a few boxes that I haven’t gone through! Maybe I can be encouraged by you!
The beginning of a new year always brings motivation in this area. I try to go through every drawer, dresser, cupboard, closet………it’s always fun to find things to just get rid of and organize what’s left over!!!! : ) Thank you for your post!

Well I was just looking around the house this morning wishing it wasn’t so cluttered. It seems that the cats and dogs have taken over the house. I might have to join you Joy!
Oh, this is going to be amazing!
2022 was not a good year here either, and it went out with a bang as we got our first verified bout of Covid.
We have unending hope that 2023 will be a better year for everyone!
Great idea. I posted about clearing out just last Tuesday, and got started on the storage room this week. I plan to do my closet and my bookshelves in the coming month.
Thank you. I need a plan.
I had success a bit with decluttering in the past but can always do more! Can’t wait to dive in with you and see what I can accomplish. Thanks for doing this, Joy!!
I need to really organize. Our son and daughter in law live with us and are expecting their first baby (our first grandchild) so I need to make some room!
Count me in. I need all the encouragement and inspiration I can get. I’ve moved and downsized several times in the last 6 years, but still have way too much clutter.
Since this is one of my goals for this year, count me in, too. I’m in the process of moving all my crafting stuff, so that area is getting decluttered and organized. Yay! Thanks for the encouragement and continued motivation.
I declutter every year right after christmas and go through all the rooms the only one I have left is my sewing guest room which I dread.
Decluttering is an ongoing process here at Chez Magpie, with varying degrees of success. Most of the apartment isn’t too bad but then….then….there’s my sewing room. Even I am always amazed at just what my stash will yield when I need something but that’s not to say that there isn’t a lot of ‘stuff’ in here that needs to get gone one way or another. Deciding to make Resident Chef a mile-a-minute afghan has done wonders for my yarn stash but I was *forced* to order more yesterday. To be honest it’s all going into Christmas projects so I guess I can be forgiven.
I certainly need to be better at this decluttering, so will follow along with you too. Thanks, take care and hugs. BTW, just caught up on your posts.
Good luck with that Joy…. I find there is always something that needs re-organising….

I’ve been cleaning and reorganizing since Jan 5 when I felt well again–it is so freeing to let the clutter go!
I don’t know if I can organize anything at this point, but maybe my assistant can! He helped me with the dining room last week, and maybe he can do more. Thanks for the idea. I’ll give it a shot and we’ll see if I’ve just moved the mess around, or actually organized anything by year’s end! LOL
