Time to introduce the next challenge for this year… the “One Gift a Month Challenge”…
This was actually not my fault… or my idea…
At the end of last year Alice told me we were doing the “One Gift a Month Challenge”… because she really needed to fill up her gift box, and I said, oh that sounds good – who is hosting it?
Turns out I am 🙂
And I would never say no to my bestie, so we hashed out a plan – a simple one because we all need simple – and here I am ready to start it for the year!
The One Gift a Month Plan
The plan is that Alice and I will come up with an idea from somewhere out in blogland – a tutorial, or a free pattern – that we can all sew for the month.
Quick and Easy Gifts
The gift ideas that we will give you will be of quick and easy projects. Things that won’t take too long… and that maybe we could even make more than one of in that month.
Join in or Watch
You of course are all invited to either join in, or just watch what we make and come up with… hopefully we will find some fun things to make that you can even put on a to do/wish list if you don’t have time that month to make anything.
Posting Schedule
From next month onwards, I will post a project to make on the first Wednesday of the month.
January’s One Gift A Month Project
I am clearly very late this month in sharing a project but it’s a quick and easy one, remember 🙂 And if you really like it, you can make more later in the year!
We thought we would start with our favorite….Pink Penguin’s Fabric Basket:
Alice found the tutorial and was the first to make it… and was part of a prize in a giveaway we hosted back in 2009!
These are so fun to make, and use scraps, so it’s a great scrapbuster.
I have made so many as gifts throughout the years. It’s great to put all sorts of goodies in – including cookies and candies for Christmas.
Tip for Making the Pink Penguin Basket
One little tip I have for you to make this even quicker, is to use some 2″ grid fusible interfacing. Just cut out a 6 x 2 piece, iron the 2″ squares on, then sew them all together! I’ll try to take some photos of how I do that and post it next week.
Go to the Pink Penguin Tutorial!
One Gift a Month Linky
I will include a linky for each month, just in case you are joining in and want to share your basket with us. Just link to the blog post you’ve shared your pic in… I will link my blog post with pics of my finished projects as well. The linky will be open all year, so you can link up at any time! If you make more than one, feel free to link up more times!
Please link to the actual blog post with a photo of the finished project!
If you are on Facebook, please join our group At Home With Joy to share your finished project, and if you are on Instagram please tag me and add the hashtag #onegiftamonth2023
Ok, I’m off to bed so that I can get up on time tomorrow and sew!
Thank you – what a great idea! I always leave my crafting too late but this enables shorts periods of time to create each month. I’m definitely looking forward to having a pile of gifts at the end of the year.
Great idea! My gift collection is a little low, too, so I’ll be joining in now and then, and I can see that these baskets hold a lot of potential (as well as goodies).
I love this idea. Not just for the gift stash, but also as motivation and planning ahead. I’ve already thought of several people to make this for. I have already made a shopping list for my son. Beginning with non perishables and getting one item per month. Planning ahead is never a bad thing. Thank you for hostessing, Joy 💗💗
Brilliant idea! I love this month’s tutorial, too.
I love this idea and will enjoy following along and hopefully filling up my gift box.
I will join in with this one… thanks for the link

One gift a month is a great idea! I have already started on my first gift but it’s going to take me more than a month to make. I’m going to follow your project suggestions and perhaps will get some good ideas to add to MY Christmas box….thank you!
Wonderful idea! Thanks for hosting and providing ideas each month.
I’ll join in too. Ah that bucket will be great for using scraps & storing scraps & as a gift for someone. I can even see a sewing day one weekend in the future to work on a project. Thanks for keeping me motivated.. Take care and hugs.
This is a great idea, and better than mine where I buy a gift every month. LOL
This is a great idea!!! I’ve downloaded the basket tutorial and will try to make it … sometime soon!
What a fun once a month challenge!
Yay, I have mine finished and linked. Thank you for this!
Great idea! I’m posting about it on my blog and I linked up!
I’ve decided to try participating, so I’ve played catch-up to finish my January project! Thanks Joy!
