What we are adding this week
I love drinking tea all year round.. but in the winter, I love a hot chocolate… or hot cocoa – whichever you prefer to call it!
My grandmother used to make the best hot chocolate with real cocoa… She would warm the milk up in a saucepan (no microwaves in those days!), then put a teaspoon of cocoa in a cup, along with a teaspoon of sugar… then she would pour a little bit of milk in it to make a paste… then a little more… and then she filled it right up!
I love winter memories like that, and so this week’s addition is a steaming hot cup of chocolate/cocoa!
This week I’ll be using these threads:
DMC 943 for the mug
DMC 3706 for the heart
and
DMC 453 for the steam
“HOW TO” FOR THE NEXT STEP IN THE STITCHALONG
Download the updated pattern below, print it out, and add to your stitchery by tracing the mug… and then start stitching!
Just curious – do you call it a “hot chocolate” or a “hot cocoa”?
Normally, I say chocolate. Most of my friends do, too. Chocolate birds flocking together? LOL, I don’t know, but that’s common in the western US, where my life originated (California) and I spent most of my life (Arizona and Texas), and even here in Tennessee.
I love the addition of the cup! And the heart is just that little touch of goodness. Thanks for this addition. I *will* be making all of these, and mine will have a heart, too. Your candles look fabulous!
Thanks so much for the patterns. You are very talented. I’m in Tennessee too, originally from upstate NY and we say hot chocolate too. Either way, tastes great! Margie
Just a very pretty embroidery you’re doing! Thanks!
We call it hot chocolate but we make it similar to what your grandmother did. We add the cocoa, 3 spoons of powdered milk, 2 spoons of sugar in the cup. Add a small splash of milk and mix into a paste. Then add boiling hot water. Stir well and top with mini marshmallows. Yummy. We didn’t have the marshmallows but our grandkids do!
Hot chocolate – perfect for the theme! I’ve never been a huge fan of hot chocolate probably because my mother always made it with Nestle’s Qwik which really did taste rather gross. That, and the fact that she was frugal and never used the full amount of powder in the cup so it didn’t have much flavour.
If I make it from scratch using cocoa, it is hot cocoa. Otherwise, it is hot chocolate.
