I finally hunted down and dragged out my churn dashes…
I though about it, and I think I packed them away early October before I went on my trip to Europe with Mum.
Having not touched them since then, it took a bit of figuring out where I was up to… even with my nicely organized trackers and notes…
I started with the Barn Dance churn dash blocks…
And worked out that although I seem to have ticked both of the pics on that page, I am short of blocks – so either I didn’t count right, or I there are some stray blocks hiding in the studio. I will have to hunt a bit before I work out which scenario is correct…
I found lots of partial pieces of blocks though…
Enough to set a few bits out in the shape of a churn dash…. and then I noticed a problem – can you see what it is in the pic below???
Yeah, the background fabric isn’t the same!!!! Who knows what I was thinking… or doing… now I know I could just sew it together and no one would notice because it is a big quilt – but it would annoy me… so that little block didn’t get put together.
Then I pulled out Chooky’s Churn Dash quilt challenge blocks… and got my head around where I was at with that one.
Once again I found a few oopsies… some of the half square triangle blocks were 2″ square instead of 2 1/2″ square… I put them in my scrap basket…
In the end, however, I did start sewing and managed to make three blocks for each quilt…..
And I think I now know where I stand with what I still need to make… so I am happy to have made some progress!!
I will probably be the last one to the finish line in Chooky’s challenge, but oh well… I am at least back on track!
How has your progress been in the sewing room so far this week?
Looks like you made good progress.
My top is finished but quilting is a long way away.
You are doing great on both. Congratulations on getting back into the groove. Sometimes that’s all we need.
There must be something in the air because I hauled out my hexxie UFO project this week and spent far too much time perusing the internet for ideas of what to do with it. End result is that I’m frogging what I’ve already sewn together in favour of a whole ‘nother layout entirely. I’m trying to cobble together three different quilt ideas into one and who knows what will happen. If it doesn’t work out the pieces will be heading to the local quilt guild for someone else to agonize over. Life’s too short to spend doing something that’s causing nothing but angst. Give me a landscape any day!!!
Two lovely churn dash projects. I’m looking forward to seeing progress on them.
Looking forward to seeing your progress. At least the first oopsie has all the same partners with same background. Take care & hugs.
Well, I’m making churn dash blocks, and I’m not even IN Chooky’s line. LOL I laughed when you showed the block with two different backgrounds. I do that ALL the time, on purpose – it’s scrap quilting! I don’t care if the backgrounds are all the same pieces, especially when it’s divided into the HST and the rectangle parts. This is my favorite block for leader-enders, and I make dozens of them. The current set is almost done. I like the fabrics in both of your CD sets, and look forward to seeing the lovely finishes.
Ahhh, mistakes. They are setbacks but not insurmountable, at least!
