Welcome to the first day of the Little Green Apples Blog Hop hosted by the lovely Carol from Just Let Me Quilt!
I’m so glad I joined in on this blog hop, even though I have been so busy… because it gave me the nudge to sew something for fun….
I decided to be quite literal with this challenge and sew an apple… a green one…
I grabbed my new book Scrappiness is Happiness from Lori Holt, found some green fabric, and chose one of the apple blocks she has in there:
After doing a lot of her blocks I have finally learned to label all those little bits of fabric:
It makes it so much easier when you go to piece the block!
I also decided to do some red sashing with tulips (since it is almost Spring in half of the world)….
Now I did mess up a bit… I should have had the right apple skin be on the left, because the contrast between the left apple skin and the leaf isn’t real good… but oh well! At least I actually made a block and did some fun sewing!!!
I was thinking of turning it into a small wall-hanging, might even hang it on the back porch when we get that redone. I cut out the binding ready to go, and now need to quilt it.
So, its not quite done, but it is the most fun sewing I’ve done in a month or more, so I am happy!
Thank you Carol for hosting this fun challenge!

Thanks so much for dropping in!
What a cute pattern, and block. Great fabrics. I would hang that in my kitchen.
Such a cute block! I love Lori Holt’s designs, and you did a great job with it.
Sweet block! Lori Holt’s designs are wonderful, aren’t they? This one is perfect for this hop!
Doesn’t Lori make the cutest patterns! Love the fabrics you used. Can’t believe you found time to do this – did you do it in the middle of the night – lol!
Your block looks great and those fabrics you used are perfect! There is nothing more fun that playing with Lori’s designs. Now I want to pull out some of my Lori Holt books and see what trouble I can get into! LOL!!
Lori has the cutest patterns and fabric. Love it your apple and labeling system for all the tiny pieces.
THANK YOU IT WORKED, LOOKING FORWARD TO NUMBER 2.
HUGS,
LINNIE/TX
Very cute apple! And your idea of labeling the pieces is smart. I’m going to have to remember that.
Your apple block is so pretty! Love the green flower pot fabric.
What a fun green apple! It will grow into something lovely when you decide what to do with it.
This is such a sweet (or sour) green apple! I love the scrappy look to it, and it looks perfectly beautiful to me. Thank you for sharing your apples with us, Joy!
What a cute, cute block. I’m not sure I would have noticed the placement of the fabrics unless you’d brought it to my attention. Just perfect.
Cute apple block. I didn’t notice any problem with it.
Oh my goodness, I came really close to making this same block! But didn’t 😉 I think it is just adorable! In nature the leaves sometimes match the apples too so it is perfect.
Your apple block is very sweet! Thanks for sharing!
What a cute apple block! I love Lori Holt designs.
I love your fabric choices. I wouldn’t have noticed the placement of colors if you hadn’t mentioned it. No biggie. I usually don’t follow high priced designers, but its hard not to like Holt’s designs. Finally had one of my family Christmas gatherings a couple weeks ago. My daughter got me the Farm Vintage #2. I’m excited! Her books are so open ended with ideas. My daughter lives on a farm and loved all the farm patterns. I think she’s hinting.
I can see how you are with this cute project.
Such a fun block! It will be a pretty mini quilt.
Very cute & at least I’ll be able to see it one day hanging in the porch. Take care & hugs.
What a darling wall hanging! You should definitely hang it up! Perfect pattern for this hop.
I think the lighter one looks fine with the brown. It’s a great apple, and fun sewing was about due for you!
Joy your apple is too cute! It’ll be fun to see what it becomes when it’s finished. 😉
A very cute block and perfect as a mini.
Your block is adorable.
Lovely green apple, and your fabrics are beautiful too!
Your apple block is so pretty! Thanks for sharing. :o)
What a fun block and so perfect for this hop. I find these hops to be a fun release from the routine quilting/sewing projects we fall into. Thanks
Fun sewing? Yay!! Enjoy quilting up your little wall hanging, too!
Green apples are my favourites but for some reason they don’t seem to taste as tart as they used to. You’ve created a pretty version!
Such an adorable block. Of course, Lori Holt would have an apple pattern. SO cute!
