It’s been cold here… cold for me even, and that is saying something! Last week I decided to bring my sewing inside so that I could be close to the wood heater…
I know, I have a beautiful studio outside… but with the rising costs of electricity it seemed silly to put the heater on out there and inside…
So here is what my kitchen (dining) looks like at the moment:
Jenny is in prime position:
Who is Jenny?
What’s that you say? Who is Jenny? And what is a Janome doing in this Bernina household????
I have been very remiss in introducing you to Jenny Janome… but there has been a reason. I bought her last year to use for doing the heat pack inserts for Sarah. I wanted to have a dedicated machine for doing her work so that I didn’t have to change feet, thread and settings on Nina. She also has a wide throat which makes it easier to do the neck/shoulder inserts.
I like Jenny a lot – but since I bought her almost a year ago, she has been at the repair shop more than in use.. I kid you not – she has been back four times because the bobbin holder keeps popping out.
I got her back about two weeks ago now and have done about 12 hours of sewing on her… and she is still working, so I do hope they have fixed her because when she works, she sews beautifully.
Don’t worry, there are Bernina’s in my kitchen too… Kira Brookie, my overlocker:
Also for doing inserts for Sarah.. and currently sitting where the microwave should be, but it was in for repair so I made the most of it 🙂
And of course Nina:
As you can see I started sewing my four patches together.
I have found that having my machines in the kitchen is helping me to get more sewing in… because I can just sew a few seams in between cooking, doing dishes, etc.
So I got the four patches done… and then trimmed them up. There wasn’t much to trim but I did it anyway…
Now that they are done I can start on the Fat Quarter Shop mystery!
I used Lori Holt’s 4 1/2″ Cute Cuts ruler to trim – I just love these rulers, they make trimming so much easier!
Sewing in the kitchen also makes it easier for me to see the courier coming to deliver goodies…..
But it’s bedtime so I will have to tell you more about that another day…
Do you have your sewing machine in the kitchen… or near the kitchen?
I have a little Janome Gem Platinum that I love, but it has the same bobbin issue. It is way overdue for a servicing, so you’ve reminded me I need to take it in. My Janome Skyline S7 resides in my sewing room, and I love it. No sewing machines near my kitchen, though! What is in that box, I wonder??
No machines in my kitchen at this time…but I use my tall and long table for cutting. My mat resides on it year round…unless we are having company! My sewing machine lives in my formal dining room converted into a studio out one door of my kitchen, and my longarm lives in the garage/bedroom out another door from my kitchen. So, my house is pretty much my studio! At least that is what the hubs says! LOL
Thanks for organizing this mystery. I really enjoy them.
I have been lucky enough to have a sewing room.
Yes my Bernina 750 is in the dining room on the dining room table. I am dong some quilting and find that the huge table is the perfect place. The machine is big like you Janome, and working on that big table is so much better then in my sewing room on the counters. I have 3 machines and two are Bernini’s but my little Janome lives in its carrying case and goes with me to cases and the quilting events.
What a nice view you have! I am on my third Janome – named June 😉 – and I could not be more pleased with each one I’ve owned. Love your variety of machines!
Nope, my machine is around the corner, down the hall! I used to sew on the dining room table many years ago!
oooh – curiosity is overwhelming to know what’s in that box!
My sewing space is in the second bedroom in our apartment (shared with my computer and a pull-out couch for guests). Our only eating space is the table in the dining area of the living room and we use it every time we have a meal so moving the sewing ‘stuff’ three times a day would be just overwhelming.
that is a lovely light filled space to sew in…. my sewing space is only a short walk to the kitchen….I agree that it is lovely to have machines out and fit in a bit of sewing in between. I can’t cook and fit in sewing though… because I get distracted and burn the food!!

I have often had a sewing machine in or near the kitchen. The Bernina is in the dining room now for friends and my granddaughter to use, but my Viking precious has it’s own table by the front window in the living room, which is my quilt studio, with the longarm and everything else. I have a little sitting room in the back of the house and it used to be the quilt studio until the longarm moved in. Your set up looks warm and functional.
What a lovely aspect you have with the light coming in and nice windows to look out………
I agree with your issues with electricity cost……..I often go sit in my shed in winter as the sun comes in and warms it up………its getting to expensive……….
