Cutting The Christmas In July Mystery Quiltalong Week 3
From the Background Fabric:
Cut 20 (twenty) 4 1/2″ squares
From the feature Fabric:
Cut 5 (five) 4 1/2″ squares
Here are mine ready to go…

Step 1
Take four of your 4-patches, 4 background squares and 1 feature square and lay them out like this:

Sew them together… I chain sewed my whole block.
If you haven’t chain sewn a block before, I’ve taken a few pictures of the process…

You’re basically chain sewing the first column, then without cutting them, adding the third column so that you end up with the rows sewn together like this:

The rows are still attached to each other… so now you flip the top row onto the middle row and I like to pin:

Sew that together to get this:

Flip the bottom row up onto the middle row and pin:

Sew and press your block:

And you’re done!
Make 5 of these blocks
And that is it for this week!
See you next week with the next step.. have fun!

I’m off to catch up on last week’s and do this one. Thankfully, they’re simple.
Oh, this is so pretty! I like the slight deviation from the traditional Christmas colors!
Ha, ha, I just started week one sewing … but I’m sewing!
It looks like fun & although I haven’t joined in, I still like looking when I open my PC as I’m still having trouble with the old laptop. Boy………….hasn’t it been cold and dreary. Will talk soon. Take care & hugs.
Looking good so far!
