A bit of this and that!
Last Week’s This and That
Home Life
Last week I ended up spending more time in the kitchen and home than anywhere else.. I was going to meal prep some chicken, but mince (ground beef) was on special so I bought that instead… I made up two meatloaves for the freezer:
I got a BBQ from Woolies and turned that into some one serve low carb casseroles for the freezer…
And I cooked a bunch of potatoes to throw in the freezer for a quick baked potato lunch or light meal one day…
While I was doing all of that, a friend came around and used my Thermomix to make nectarine jam:
Oh, and she gave me some pumpkin which I used to make soup….
Nothing was done in the garden except watering because it was soooo hot last week. I decided not to plant anything because it would most likely die the minute it popped out of the ground….
Creativity
I did do some sewing…. but alas, it was all on secret projects so I can’t show you much…
One secret project had to do with a zip and some squares… it needs a bit of tweaking before I can show you the finished product.
My poor Chook blocks didn’t get any attention… hopefully this week.
Cat blanket is nearly finished….
I just need to finish the edging on two sides, and of course sew in all those pesky little bits:
I think that will be a good project to do when we are camping later this week.
This Week’s this and That & To Do List
Thank goodness that this week is going to be cooler!!! DH has been off camping and I am planning on joining him in a few days….
Since I got distracted with meal prep and housework last week, I am just transferring last week’s to do list to this week – I am giving myself permission to do that!
Have you got a bit of This and That to share? Then join in!
You don’t need to have your post formatted the same way as I do, but you can if you want… otherwise just link to any blog post on any topic and share it with us!

I love the granny squares afghan. My mother used to make that design often. Enjoy your camping!
I enjoyed seeing your meal preps. Yummie. We try to do that when we can. I’m curious about the potatoes. You pre-cooked them and put them in bags in the freezer? I’ve never frozen baked potatoes. I never thought of that, but I can see that it would keep them from getting spoiled sitting in a bin. Your cat blankie is darling and very colorful. I don’t know much about cats. I would think they would claw at the thread? I loved looking at your sewing area. Such a nice, bright window view. I need to reorganize my sewing areas so I can watch the world go by and the birds! LOL Nice post.
Your meal prep looks pretty amazing! Looking forward to seeing your cat blanket – it’s pretty! Enjoy your camping!
That’s the problem with granny square designs – those pesky ends. I try to work them in as I go. OR…something I just discovered that might work (although I haven’t tried it with granny squares) is the Russian join. It’s relatively easy to do and might help. I’m busily knitting double stranded hats for donation and although I have ten done the bag of yarn leftovers looks just as as full as it did when I started…sigh.
Nice array of projects–I’m still laid out with Covid!
I enjoy seeing what you are up to and watching those check marks on your lists!
Your view out the window in the corner of your sewing space is so lovely. That would be heavenly and blissful!
I started designing my own quilt planner from your inspiration. It has been fun! I am using Canva and trying to decide if I want to purchase my own notch punch and rings or have them do it for me. We shall see where that journey takes me. At any rate, you truly inspire me.
Every time I visit I drool over those cute Lori Holt chickens and think I had better set myself up with one of my Lori Holt patterns as my own, personal Block of the Month.
I like your ten minute zones. Great idea.
BBQ dish sounds interesting. I love bbq.
Looking forward to seeing your secret sewing projects.
My granny and aunt used to make granny square afghans like that. Sometimes they would put a 3D rose in the center. I wish I still had that pattern, even if I don’t get to crochet a lot! Looking forward to your secret project! Thanks for linking up with Monday Musings!
