I am usually much quicker with telling you what will be happening here at Days Filled With Joy – my plans and changes for the year! But this year I am lagging behind with all my plans… still, I think I am about ready to share things with you!
2024 Block of the Month
You may have been wondering if there was going to be a BOM this year, and the answer is – yes!
I had a few ideas last year and started designing a really cute one, but the blocks were going to take quite a while to stitch, so I decided to set that one aside for now and simplify!!!
So this year’s will be a simpler block – pieced and embroidered, and I think it will be quite pretty. Here’s a sneak peak:
I am working on getting as many blocks done as I can and then start in March… so stay tuned!
Beginner’s Quilting & Tutorials
Last year I started teaching beginner’s quilting again, and I am really enjoying it! At times during the classes, I wished I had made some notes, handouts, or a blog post to direct my students.
I’ve decided that this year I will be writing more “How to” posts that I can just point my students to, and they might even be of some interest to some of my readers here, you never know!
So you will start to see more tutorials and general quilting blog posts this year as I slowly try to build up a library for beginning quilters.
Updating Old Posts
I’ve been blogging for a very loooooooong time! I was actually blogging elsewhere before I started under the name of Days Filled with Joy. And before blogs existed I made websites – in those days everything was done with HTML coding and blog posts were called “articles”! Thank goodness for companies like Blogspot and WordPress that have made blogging so much easier!
My first website was way back in 1999… I took a screenshot of one of the pages and sent it to DD, I thought it was so cute:
The earliest blog post I can find on one of my old blogs was in July 2006…
I started Days Filled With Joy as “Joy’s Quilts” on Blogspot in 2009… and then transferred everything to this site at some stage.
So, all that to say that I have a LOT of old posts and I am planning on updating a bunch of them this year. Obviously not the everyday posts, but more the tutorial style ones.
I’ve had a lot of people ask me for pdf versions of my sewalongs and other posts, and I think I have found an easy way of doing this, so I plan to do that as part of updating the old posts.
I’ve never updated blog posts before, so I am not sure how that will work – you may see a lot of new posts coming up with “updated” on them… if so, you will know what is happening!
Recipes
Last year I had quite some requests to share some of my recipes, so I want to try to make the time to do that this year. Also, with my adult children moving out of the home and asking me for our favorite recipes I thought I could just send them to the blog rather than me looking them up all the time!
Changes on my Webpage
I’m still playing around with my webpage, so you’ll see some change there this year too – hopefully I won’t do anything too drastic by accident and break it!
New Shop and Membership
As I’ve mentioned, I am closing down my Etsy pattern and printable shops and will most likely be starting up another shop with fewer fees and restrictions. I am planning some sort of membership later in the year, but still working that all out. I am going to take my time with all of this…
Quiltalongs, Sewalongs, and Stitchalongs
I’ll be hosting some more of these again this year. The only thing I have been working on so far is a QAL that I’m planning on starting in April, so stay tuned for that!
Well, I think that is it……. it’s enough isn’t it?! I know I will come up with some more crazy ideas during the year, like some challenges.. but for now that is what is in the works here on the blog!
I’m looking forward to a fun year, and I hope you are too!
Check out the Fat Quarter Shop Flash Sale!
Looking forward to the new BOM. Love the wee basket fabric, line?
Sounds like it is going to be an exciting full year. Can hardly wait to get started.
Love reading about the changes you are planning and the history of your blog, it’s fascinating! I started blogging in 2007 under the name For Goodness Sake and have had several blog name changes since then. It was primarily a recipe/catering blog, and it is fun to go back and read those old posts.
OH my goodness you have a lot on your plate, don’t overdue it and burn out, Love reading your posts when they appear in my mail, I myself love tutorials that simplify things (Marys triangles was one). I have PrintFriendly on my computer, it is free, makes an excellent pdf, (gets rid of all those annoying ads when you just want to read something), and a lot of the sites I follow use it.
Until next time when you pop up in my mail-Mary C
I started blogging in July of 2007! You inspired me to look back and get lost in the memories! Thanks.
Nice to know you will be sharing more tutorials and blocks-of-the-month!
I, too, have been blogging since 2006. I originally started so I could share things I was working on with our boys and nobody was more surprised than I was when I started getting readers. I often look back so I can be reminded of what I was doing. I should do like you’re planning and go back and clean up some of the posts but it seems like a ton of work. You have so many plans for the year – you go, girl!
I for one am excited about all your plans. Thank-you for pushing on.
It will be fun and interesting to see what you come up with.
Gosh! So much going on … look forward to finding out more.
Love your sneak peak. Everything you do brings me joy! You have many talents!
