Just a bit of this and that!
Last Week’s This and That
Last week started with a fair bit of stress…
Tuesday was a terribly hot and windy day. I only worked in the morning and made it home just in time before a large tree came down over the road into our little town… if I was a bit later I’d have had to find another road home. And then came the storms – for us it was thunder and dry lightning – which started a fire in the next town over.
In no time because of the high wind, it was out of control and more than 20 trucks were fighting it. Our neighboring towns were told to evacuate, and we were on high alert in case the wind changed and sent it heading our way.
A friend and her two dogs evacuated and sheltered at our place… the poor dogs were not too happy with coming over.. It took Bella a lot of coaxing to get over that door step:
Once she was in the kitchen/lounge she was happy!
Daisy was so upset to have to leave home that she tried to hide in the corner:
And wasn’t really happy until I put a quilt for her to snuggle up with on the couch:
We were up till midnight checking on the fire and finally headed for bed, thankful that the wind wasn’t changing.
No houses were lost thankfully, unlike further west where 44 were lost. It was not a great day.
The fire is still burning, but it’s under control… we have more hot days this week so we’re hoping that it won’t flare up again.
Mum and I went away for our few days of R&R, so there is nothing productive for me to show you! It was lovely to get away and relax, do some reading, work on some stitching for this week’s blog hop, and nothing much else!

Oh my! I’m glad you all are safe and so glad you could give your friend’s doggies some comfort too. They sense the bad weather and they hear the winds and the thunder and lightning. Those were cute pics of them. It didn’t take them long to feel safe at your place. Quilts give them comfort. I sure hope the weather has cleared up. I can’t imagine living with threats of fires. We just deal with hurricanes in my neck of the woods!
How scary! Those poor puppies, very traumatic for them. They are so sensitive to stress. I hope you get some rain and relief. Glad you enjoyed your R&R with your Mum.
The fires sound scary! I hope the firemen can get the fires out and there aren’t anymore. It was nice you and your mother could get away for a short vacation.
Thoughts are with you and your surrounding area. Please stay safe!
So glad to hear that you didn’t have to evacuate!!!! Fire alerts are scary events! The nervous dogs say it all!
Wow! More excitement than a body needs! I’m glad you’re safe and well so far and will pray that that continues. I hope you get some relaxing and reviving craft time.
Oh Wow! That would be super super scary. Those fires have a life of their own. I used to be a fire fighter. Not a house fire fighter, but a forest and open range fire fighter. So sorry so many lost their homes. In a fire you lose everything because what isn’t burned up is smoke damaged.
You are lucky. I felt bad for the dogs too.
I’m so glad you’re safe and the fire is under control. Poor pups. But, quilts make everything better, even for our fur babies. Sorry for those who have lost their homes, but I hope no lives have been lost.
We have been sitting here (Chicago) with baited breath for you all. Those poor puppers get that smell in their sensitive noses and it’s just so hard to explain it to them. Can I subscribe to this blog? (I’m really tech impaired but a great quilter!)
