Welcome to Day 1 of the “Give it a Whirl Blog Hop” hosted by the lovely Carol from Just Let Me Quilt!
Our Challenge:
Somewhere in or on your project you must include a “whirl”.
This can be a pinwheel, Dresden, or anything that looks like it’s spinning.
Maybe a merry-go-round or Ferris wheel in the fabric?
Well, I don’t know about merry-go-rounds or Ferris wheels – they make me motion sick… but I do love pinwheels!!! So here is my project for this hop….
I had lots of fun designing this quilt and one day I will write up the pattern for it, but for now I’ve just got photos!
I stopped by a park after work one day to take some pics… it was quite windy and I forgot to bring clothes pegs or anything to anchor it down… so I don’t quite have a photo of the full quilt.. this is as close as I got:
The pinwheel blocks are paired with pintuck blocks… The quilting was in the ditch around the blocks and then some pretty feathers on the borders:
The pinwheels, as you can see, are 3D – a fun technique!
Thanks, Carol for hosting this month’s hop!

Lovely quilt! Happy stitching!
That is beautiful. They really look like pinwheels and the pintucks really added that special touch. Very nice. I don’t think you need to apologize for not getting a full picture. The pictures you shared are perfect.
Oh my goodness Joy, pintucks would have never crossed my mind, and WOW, do they pack a punch in your project. What a perfect combination with your bright and cheery pinwheels. I love love love your quilt.

A very pretty quilt you’ve built!!!! The colors and the texture really make it shine!
Pretty quilt! My project uses the same type of pinwheels. 🙂 The pintuck blocks are a really neat addition, and I love the feathers on the border! (I commented earlier but don’t see it, so hope this won’t be a duplicate…) Thanks for sharing!
We were on the same 3D thought track with our pinwheels, but those pintucks…wow! I’ve never made those so now I want to. I love your quilt! Thanks for sharing this beauty!
Gorgeous quilt Joy, thanks so much for sharing!
3d pinwheels are so fun to make. Funny that you and Carol both decided on the same thing. Love your quilt.

3 D Pinwheels and pintuck blocks !!! What a great combination!!! Thanks for sharing!
This is such a fun quilt. I love those buttons in the centers of the pinwheels and also those pintuck blocks. Just wonderful!
I love all the bright colors with the white. It is stunning. The 3D pinwheels are marvelous.
Beautiful!
What a great idea using the pin tuck blocks to set off the pinwheels. I think that the pictures in the wind give the impression of spinning. Wonderful quilt.
I love all the texture this quilt has.
That is truly beautiful as well as fun! I will keep my eyes open for when you write up the pattern.
Beautiful quilt! I love those quilted feathers in the outside borders. Thanks for sharing!
This would make a really fun children’s quilt (perhaps not for a baby with the buttons). Well done!
Love the quilt and how you used the buttons in the centers of the pinwheels.
Cute, cute, cute! I love the addition of the details in the white blocks too!
Great Quilt, love the 3D elements!
That is so beautiful! I love that you added the pintucks to your pinwheel quilt. Did you use the same technique for the pinwheels that Carol did?
Oh it’s a beautiful quilt joy……
