I’ve been very busy playing hooky this week! My yarn basket is full of sparkly Christmassyness… I know, it’s not a word, but that is how my basket looks!
Crochet Doily is Finished!
I finished the crochet doily based on Lori Holt’s youtube tutorial here.
The tutorial is called “Easy Crochet Doily” and it is! So if you are a beginner I would recommend trying it. Lori goes step by step explaining each round.
It looks nice in my studio under my “joy” cup with quilting tools in it:
It also fits perfectly on the lazy susan on my kitchen table:
A candle on top and there you have it:
I’m excited because now I can use my cotton yarn and make more to swap out throughout the year!
Making Granny “Squircles”
What is a granny squircle you might ask… well it’s those little granny squares above… and below:
Both the doily and the “squircles” start with a granny circle as shown in this video by Lori.
Then Lori shows different ways of using these granny circles. One way is by building the rounds to make the doily. Another way is by turning them into squares like the “squircles” above. Lori shows how to do that in this video.
Here is a closer look:
I have made 16 squircles and am now sewing them together. I’ll then do a nice little border around the whole thing and it will be a little throw or table topper.
I’m really happy with my progress… I am going to see if I can buy some more yarn because I have nearly run out of blue… hopefully, there is still some left in stock!
In other news… it is one week till Christmas!!!!! Just in case you didn’t know…. how are your preparations going?
What a beautiful crochet doily! I am admiring how flat yours lies, mine would be all ruffly on the edges I’m afraid. The squircles look like fun!
