Well, it’s taken me longer than expected to put this up, as usual… but here it is finally! The finishing instructions for last year’s block of the month ~ Say it With Flowers!
As always you don’t need to finish your quilt off in the same way as I did – feel free to put it together and add more borders, no sashing, etc, etc… it is your quilt!
The blocks have been on my design wall for months now, just staring at me asking me to sew them together….

Well, the problem is it has been too hot to go out into the studio, so I have ignored them until now…
I turned on the air last week and gathered the fabric for the sashing, cornerstones and borders:

Cut everything out, and then rescued the blocks from the design wall:

Then I took it all inside into my cool kitchen sewing corner to sew it all together….

This is where I am at now – just need to add the borders!

I think it is turning out quite nice….
Note about the Borders
I don’t usually put the measurements of the borders in my patterns because every quilt top may turn out a little different due to a variety of feet used or seam allowances.
In the instructions I have cut the border strips 5″ wide but I have not given instructions for the length of the borders, but rather advised to measure the quilt and then cut accordingly.
One day I will make a tutorial on this, but for now, there is a great one here explaining the hows and whys:

Finishing Instructions
These finishing instructions can be downloaded by clicking on the button below. Since it is part of last year’s BOM, signup to the freebies section will not be required. But I have also put them in both the freebie and membership sections.
The finishing instructions will be up for a month or two and then I will take them down and they will be in the membership area permanently.
IF YOU MISSED ANY OF THE BLOCKS… they are all up for FREE in the Freebies section for another month or two, so grab them before they go into the membership!!!
Thank you to those of you who joined in with me last year! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
I’ll be sure to take a photo of the finished top when it is done.
Happy Finishing!

Thanks Joy
I do like the combination of embroidery and machine sewing yet realise this could be all hand sewn. Keep inspiring us đź’ť
Your sashing and cornerstones are beautiful! I really hope to get moving on this one, I have been quite lazy. Thank you so much for the patterns and the finishing details.
I love your quilt so much, colors everything! Thank You So Much for these patterns and finishing instructions!
Joy, I love these instructions to finish. Thank you so much.
I love the bright view out the windows in front of your sewing area. WOW

Love the colors you’ve chosen for your sashings and borders. What a sweet, girly quilt. I wish I still had a little girl grand. All of mine are pretty much grown.
It’s turned out so pretty Joy! And thank you for the link to properly adding borders to a quilt; there are some good tips there.
