Spring Mystery Quilt Along Step 1

Have you got your scraps? It’s time for step 1 of our Spring Mystery Quilt Along for 2025!!

Today we are going to start by cutting the background fabric and then sewing some of our 2 1/2″ scrappy squares.

If you don’t have any already cut, you can cut them today!

Background Fabric Cutting Instructions

First of all, we will be cutting the background fabric.

Cut:

Twenty (20) 2 1/2″ squares

Twenty (20) 3″ squares

Eight (8) 4 1/2″ squares

The Scrappy 2 1/2″ Fabric Squares

If you haven’t got these already, cut:

Fifty-two (52) 2 1/2″ squares of scrappy fabric

Step 1

Take Thirty-two (32) scrappy 2 1/2″ squares and sew them together to make 8 rows of 4 squares.

I chain-sewed to make it quicker and tried very hard to pick all the squares randomly…

You will end up with a nice pile of scrappy rows…

Cut the threads and take them to the ironing board. Press all the seams in the same direction.

And that is all we are doing today!!

Set aside the rest of the squares you have cut out for later on in the QAL!

If you want to get ahead for next week, you can take the twenty (20) 3″ squares and draw a diagonal line on the back of each square like this:
